So you have been given the task of hosting your company’s next networking reception. What next? Don’t fret, we have compiled an easy go-to checklist to help plan an event that is sure to impress your boss and make your colleagues smile.
Make sure to announce the event early, allowing your co-workers plenty of time to clear their schedules and to arrange childcare. Don’t wait until the last minute to start gathering names and addresses. If there are several people from the same office that you plan to invite, don’t skimp, send each person an invite.
Give them a reason to come mingle. Depending on your budget, entertainment is always a good idea. A small jazz trio sets the perfect atmosphere, and still allows for conversations to be shared.
Heavy hors d’oeuvres are a good idea for events that take place right after work, guests will be hungry, but this isn’t dinner. Make sure you work with the restaurant/caterer for the items that will travel well, there’s nothing worse than wilted lettuce wraps. If you have the budget consider hiring someone to pass the hors d’oeuvres, it makes a nice impression, and keeps the event flowing by allowing guests to mingle, rather than gather around the food tables.
“To schwag or not to schwag” is always the question. If you have extra room in your budget, I say schwag. Keep in mind, no one wants another stress ball, or desk calendar. Be creative and think practical.
