Wedding Trends for 2016: Colors

Wedding Trends

Happy New Year! We are really excited to start a fresh round of bridal shows and see all of the new trends for the year featured in real life. We know that a lot of you might be in the beginning stages of planning your wedding, so you’ll be making big choices on what you want your special day to look like.

If your wedding is this year, it’s important to pay attention to the various trends that are happening in the wedding world. Why? Because if you like the trends, you’ll have more options: dresses, cakes, venues, and everything will be more widely available for you. On the other hand, if you choose to go with last year’s trends, you might find more deals and be able to save a little more money on your purchases (we still love the Marsala color, so we can get behind this choice). If you choose to completely buck the system and choose your own styles, it might be harder to find the dresses, etc. that match the taste you want to reflect.

In short, remember that monologue in The Devil Wears Prada where Meryl Streep is talking about the cerulean sweater? Well, there is some definite truth to all of that, no matter how mean it sounded.

Cerulean Blue
“In fact, you’re wearing the sweater that was selected for you by the people in this room. From a pile of ‘stuff’.”

A Word on Pantone

When the Pantone Colors of the Year were announced, everyone’s social media feeds were immediately taken over with Serenity and Rose Quartz. While these colors will be most popularly available for you infuse into your wedding, you can still deviate. Pastels aren’t everybody’s cup of tea and that’s where the magic of the wedding industry kicks in for you. It’s generally understood that people have differing tastes. You’ll still be able to find the color combinations that will make your wedding reflect your style perfectly.

EC Invites has two great posts (part one and two) on Pantone 2016 trends for weddings that you can find here and here. We especially love the lilac gray combo and the buttercup yellow weddings.

Still not captivated by the ten Pantone choices for 2016? Here are a few different palette choices from last year:
