Planning Tip: Keep a Wedding Journal

In our opinion, journaling through your planning process is a great way to streamline wedding planning. Having a nice notebook to keep after the wedding is over is a cool way to share your memories and ideas with family and friends — along with other prospective brides that might wonder exactly what you went through when you planned your wedding.

So, what’s the best kind of journal to have? Find something that you can keep in your purse that has a durable cover. Moleskines are a pretty classic way to go, but your local bookstore will carry alternatives to that, especially in the bargain section, so it pays to keep an eye out. Five-Star also sells smaller spiral notebooks, if that’s more your style. The key is to find something that will make you want to write.

Once you’ve got it, make it your own. You can decorate it or leave it be, but the most important thing to do is to fill it. Here are our suggestions for doing so:

How to Journal While You Plan Your Wedding

Keep a record of important information. Are you horrible at remembering details? Keeping a journal is perfect for that. Simply pull it out and write down your inspiration. That way, you can move on, let it simmer a while, and come back to it later.

Help keep yourself on track. Journaling is a great way to keep yourself accountable. Doing this won’t just keep you on target, it will also markedly reduce your stress levels. Mark off a dedicated space at the bottom of each page or entry with things to do or goals for certain dates. You can enter them later on your Gala Pal app account. 😉

Do it for the memories. You’re going to hear from a lot of newlyweds that everything from their engagement up to the day of their wedding went by in a blur. Don’t just keep a record of the facts and numbers; keep a record of how you felt, how excited you were, and everything the two of you did together to plan it. Add selfies that you took during this time or pictures of the planning process to enhance your recall. You won’t regret having those memories to look back on later.

Have you started a wedding planning journal? How is it organized? Let us know in the comments!

Happy Planning!
