We’re all adults here. Let’s just admit that acne doesn’t magically stop on your 18th birthday. Even the most pristine skin is subject to a hormonal fluctuation from time to time. It can be brought on by anything — stress, pollution, accidentally forgetting to wash your face after a night out on the town, and the biggest cause of breakouts when it comes to weddings…
Yep. Have you ever had a big project due at work or school and seen the effects of it on your face? Your whole body reacts to stressors. This causes the skin to fight back (overcompensate) with excess oil production to clog up your pores. If you’re stressed about wedding planning, the likelihood that you’ll have a breakout goes up exponentially.
Here are some steps you can take to lessen the severity of your breakout:
Don’t freak out. You’ll just make it worse. We get that when anyone says to calm down, it just makes it worse. But really. Chill out. Being stressed is what caused this in the first place.
Along those same lines, don’t attack it with chemicals. If you find it the night before your wedding, dab some tea tree oil on there and leave it alone. Using harsh chemicals will literally make it worse by inflaming the area, possibly causing a cluster of tiny irritations next to your original spot.
We know you want to, but try to refrain from popping it. Unless a slight breeze would cause this thing to explode, don’t mess with it. Again, the inflammation/scab that it would cause is not worth ruining all of your wedding pictures.
If you’ve got time, try to hire a makeup artist. It’s cool that your friend Tiffany wants to do your makeup, but if she’s just really good at her own makeup, you’re going to want to axe her and find a pro. Someone who works with makeup regularly on people with different skin tones. We’ve seen professionals work such magic on brides, transforming them from suffering from a cold to absolutely radiant in just under an hour. The offending zit/s won’t stand a chance.
Mount an offensive. Are you six months away from your wedding? Cut down on dairy and sugar, eat lots of leafy greens, drink all the water you can handle, find a skin regimen that literally rocks your blemishes off, and take a 2x a week yoga class with meditation. By the time your wedding comes around, you’re going to be so radiant that people will be asking what your secret is (and assuming that it’s supernatural).
